MOUNT PATERNO TUNNELS

The Monte Paterno tunnels tour is a fascinating hike that combines nature, history and breathtaking views. This route takes its name from the numerous tunnels dug during the First World War, when the area was the scene of fighting between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian armies.

The trail usually starts from the Auronzo Refuge and follows the famous Tre Cime di Lavaredo route, until reaching the start of the tunnels. It is advisable to carry a head torch to illuminate the long dark sections inside the tunnels, some of which are quite steep and require attention.

Once you exit the tunnels, you find yourself on a spectacular ridge that offers unparalleled views of the surrounding Dolomites. The entire tour can take from 4 to 6 hours, depending on stops and pace. It is an ideal excursion for those who want to combine the historical aspect with the naturalistic one, enjoying one of the most iconic views of the Italian Alps.
